Hi all, sorry that it's been sooo long since my last post.. Anyway my Calli King is now 2 years old, about 4 foot long, fairly still slender and insanely friendly. I've been feeding her 3 adult mice per week which I think may be a little too much. Should I cut this back to 2?

About three weeks ago she stopped feeding. Wouldn't eat anything. no matter what I tried. It made no difference how warm or cold the mice were, whether she was fed after a long cuddle so she was warm or straight out of the cage or even whether the mouse was brained and left in the cage over night. She simply showed no interest.

It could have been the change from small adult mice to large adult mice or simply the cold weather... not sure. The shop I bought her from promised that she was a girl and that she didn't need probing as a babe but now says that she may in fact be a boy, as this is very boy like behavior with the arrival of spring...

Anyways She was very active and looked hungry so I tried her on fuzzies, (they didn't have and small mice)just on the off chance and she lapped them up and gobbled down immediately. I'll try her again on small mice later on and see if she can get back to feeding with proper sized prey. Do I aim to get to 2 adult mice per week?

Will also get her probed at some point to find out if she is indeed a he!!

On another note. To help with keeping her cage clean and tidy, I have a rectangular dish in which I put cat litter (just the simple natural clay absorbent stuff). Over a number weeks I managed to get her to use it as a litter tray by tidying up all around but leaving her mess that was done in the litter tray. It now works very well and reduces smell and makes cleaning out a lot easier. It may just be luck but the vast majority of poops are done in the tray. Not sure what people would think of that but it was an interesting concept and though I'd throw it out there..

Cheers

Charlie.

I have to thank you for asking this question! Makes me very happy to know that they can be fed every 14 days like the corns now! Everything I had read previously said 7-10 days.

The litter tray is very instresting.

Hi Charlie, I have 6 kings of varying sizes. The general rule is to feed 1 appropriately sized meal every 1-2 weeks, more frequenty when young, less frequently when adult. An appropriate size is roughly 1.5 times the width of the snake so that you can clearly see a buldge after feeding but not a huge lump. For a 2 year old I would feed once a week but only you can determine the size as all snakes are slightly different. Most kings will eat anything you put in front of them so don't be tempted to offer your snake more if they keep looking, they can live on much less than you think. :-)

i feed mine 2 adult mice every 10-14 days,so if you do want to feed 2 widen the feeding times. The tip about the litter tray is something ive never heard of,mine just pops everywhere lol.
