Since Shadow got out i have tried to feed him rats. I actually intended on it regardless.
He just strikes them and jumps around the viv! Kinda weird and freaky to watch.
I take its a defence mechanism as he doesn't even open his mouth |

As Scott says this is a devensive action....Your snake feels threatned by the Rat so therefore strikes out at it....The next step should be to constrict, kill (they still go through the motions on defrost) then eat it!
What size Rats you trying....Could be too big??? |

Sounds defensive yeah. Perhaps leaving the Rat in over night? Saying that, I presume Shadow is the MBK in your signature, if so, they arn't the calmest of feeders.
