I have an ex tropical aquarium tank which is about standard size with good fitting lid and lighted hood. I would like to use this when Calli gets a bit bigger (30cm currently. I plan to disinfect and throughly clean it before use. My main concerns are do I put the heat mat inside under the substrate (stat controlled), Can I use a Day light fluorescent for lighting I think this would help with winter blues. Are there any other things I should consider

As he was above my female corns, i noticed a distinctive change in him in March last year, so reinforced his lid by putting a 24x18x10 inch crate on top, that was full of dvd's and had 3 phone books and some other odds n sods on top of it. He still managed to get out of that, the weight of the crate was about 10 kilos or so.
He is now in a bigger ex-fish tank, but I use these: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2-Pcs-LUGGAGE-TIE-DOWN-STRAPS-25mm-x-5mtr_W0QQitemZ130371461054QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item1e5abe9fbe
I got mine from wilkos for 2.50 for a pair, but places like John Lewis do them for 3.20.
Loads of places have them, either in a car section or luggage section normally. Just if you do, then get the self gripping metal clasp ones, the plastic ones last for about 5 seconds. |

Posted - 05/03/2010 : 12:07:36 if it's a glass tank i'd put the heatmat underneath and keep the substrate thinned out over the top of it so the heat isn't insulated away from the snake.
i'd also cover 3 sides with something like aquarium backing to help make your snake feel more secure and make sure the lid is 110% escape proof |
