Posted - 14/02/2010 : 20:23:41 i have a 3ft viv with a king snake, iv got the heatmat inside the viv, because i couldnt get enough heat inside the viv if it was outside. but its secure and he can't get to it. iv got a prope in his hide which is 27c which is fine, and the cold prope against the back of the viv on the cold side. now its only about 20c is this ok? or do i need to get a lamp to increase the air temp. he doesn't seem to leave his to much is this because the air temp is to cold for him? thanks |

Posted - 14/02/2010 : 22:16:40 You mention that you have the probe in his hide. I am assuming from this that you only have one hide in the viv? You could really do with a minimum of two hide (one in each end) as your snake may be feeling insecure. This may also explain why he is not coming out. How old/large is the snake? |

Posted - 14/02/2010 : 22:15:21 The air temps wont make a huge deal of odds to him, unless his viv is in a draughty place, under a window or similar whaere it can drop below room temp a lot. They get most of their heat from underneath them as the curl up on top of or move over the heatmat.
How long have you had him? If you've only had him a short while then it's likely he's just settling in.
What size is he (roughly)? How big is his Viv? What is his viv made from? What's your general husbandry like? (temps, hides, substrates etc)
If in doubt, hit the search button on the top right and have a looky at the care sheet, it's probably the best on the interweb.
And welcome to the forum.
