Posted - 30/05/2009 : 10:11:13 My kings are as soft as anything. Although they are certainly more fiesty when there is food around and if hungry have a tendency to go for my big toe if I wiggle it! They are certainly more vicious when it comes to taking food items, darting towards it like a thing possessed and hissing loudly. But they have more character than Corns and are not as flighty when handled,
My banded Cali King is a large snake for the species, about 5 foot and chunky. She's a beauty as you can see.
Love all my snakes for different reasons but I have to say, the Kings make the best "pet" I think. |

Posted - 28/05/2009 : 23:08:14 hi ben,how about posting a photo of it,I personly think kings can be a great starter snake as long as you get one that has been well taken care of and use to being handled or bought as a youngster. |

Posted - 28/05/2009 : 21:18:44 Hi welcome to the sight. I also have a king Its actuelly a Mexican Black King and hes really laid back. A few of us have that particular breed of king. I would recommend one for your first snake |

Posted - 28/05/2009 : 13:13:16 My first snake was a king (I now have two of them) and neither are snappy as some kings can be, in fact they're very laid back. If you want a king then go to a shop and ask to handle the snake you're interested in. You'll soon find out what kind of an attitude it has. |

Posted - 28/05/2009 : 12:39:17 Hi Ben Welcome to the Forum! It all depends on which king snake you are looking at - There are care sheets on the main website that tell you the size each species grows to (these are approximate) like humans depending on the snake some can be larger than others.
I would recommend a corn snake as a first snake rather than a king, although their care is very similar King Snakes tend to bite more often, and can be harder to handle.
If you're still interested and a vicious snake doesn't put you off, here's a few things to consider before purchasing your first Snake:
* Who will look after your new pet if you are away? * Can you get food (frozen mice) easily from your local pet shop? * Can you (or your parents) live with a bag of dead mice in your freezer? * Can you handle feeding the mice to your pet? * Are you prepared to take on an animal that could live for up to 20 years? * Is the rest of the family happy to live with a pet snake? * Can you afford all the equipment necessary to keep your pet happy? * Have you done your research on Corn Snakes and their relevant care?
