Posted - 04/05/2009 : 19:02:57 Hi all I have just come back from picking up my first King snake :) His name is Monty and is about 13 yrs old. I have a question about feeding. The chap i got him from told me he only feeds him about once a month on rat pups, i have corn snakes and feed my adult one once every 2 weeks and i assumed this would be the same for a king, once a month seems a long time to me.

i will let him settle in and take some more pics, this is a pic i got from the previous owner. |

Posted - 06/05/2009 : 08:14:18 rat pup? really? gorgeous snake, looks no bigger than Tartan was. how big is he? Tartan was on one large mouse once every 10 days, and she was about 4 ft 7-8 snd about inch 1/2 diameter or so :) |

Posted - 05/05/2009 : 19:42:10 heya and welcome over here i'd use a similar feeding regime to a male corn, an appropriately sized mouse/rat every 10-14 days, like corns they're easy to over feed when they're eating. BUT if you're building him up following brumation or a period of him going off his food then feed weekly and progress to 10-14 days when he's around the desired weight/condition. |

Posted - 05/05/2009 : 19:09:10 Male Kings tend to go off their food in Winter a bit anyway. I was offering mine food every week but he went a month between feeds a few times. He's back on his regular feeds now though |

Posted - 04/05/2009 : 21:10:25 He is a Ruthven's Kingsnake. I think i will feed him every two weeks then. i didnt think they should go so long without a feed. The chap also said he feeds him less in the winter, so im not sure the longest he has been left without a feed. |

Posted - 04/05/2009 : 20:14:38 I would feed 2 mice every 14 days. |

Posted - 04/05/2009 : 20:03:08 I think every fortnight would be best. What type of king is he? |

Posted - 04/05/2009 : 19:30:17 Mmmm, i know that as snakes get older they slowdown and don't need quite so much grub but i wouldn't like to go that long between feeds. I'd go a large mouse every 2 weeks. |
